Study & Travel – Could you manage it?

Travelling is something I love to do, there is the planning prior to the trip where you want to do everything single thing available and once you are there it is a whole new experience actually exploring the new location you are visiting!

This post is a collaboration post

Travelling is becoming easily available to everyone with cheap deals as well as fantastic tours not previously available that allow you to get deep within a culture and lifestyle, the only thing stopping us all from travelling so much is our at home life but what if I told you it was acceptable to travel whilst continuing your study. For example you can continue studying for a nurse practitioner doctorate degree while you travel., Online doctoral nursing programs are flexible enough to allow students to continue studying from anywhere in the world. However, for this strategy to be successful, you need a few important things to be in place first.

Choose the Right Course for you

Some courses are flexible enough to let you study anywhere, but others are tied to a classroom in a specific university, so make your decision wisely. Online study is perfect for itinerant travellers. You can do your studies from any location in the world, providing you have an internet connection of course. The other option worth looking into is the Erasmus program, which is designed for students studying within the European Union. The scheme allows you to do an exchange year in a different university. You should also look at exchange programs specific to your university, as many institutions have programs where their students can undertake study overseas.

Internet or WiFi Connection

Online study works perfectly, as long as you have a reliable internet connection. Thanks to advancements in modern technology, the internet is now widely available, even in remote parts of Africa and Asia. If you stay in a tourist accommodation, you should have access to the internet, but even if you don’t, there are plenty of free networks available in coffee shops, internet cafes, public buildings and transport hubs. Failing that, buy a personal internet dongle for your own use, but remember that you will soon eat up data if you need to download a lot of documents or video content.

Internet Accessible Device

Once you have internet sorted, you will need a device to work on. A laptop is probably the best choice, but tablets with a Bluetooth keyboard can also work well if you don’t need to do too much written work.

Downtime in Your Travel Itinerary

Remember to make time in your travel itinerary for study. Travel is fun, but if you spend all of your time playing, exploring and being a tourist, your coursework will suffer. Independent travellers will find it easy to study and travel, since you are not tied down to a fixed itinerary. You can take each day as it comes, and if you decide to have a “beach day”, then great. Catch up on your coursework tomorrow!

You need to be the right kind of person to mix travel and study. Being organised helps, but being too organised is probably not such a good trait, as you are likely to become stressed when life gets in the way and you can’t login to a tutorial group or make time to write an assignment. If this sounds like you, stick to travelling during your vacation time. You’ll be a lot happier.
