I have become one of those Hunger Game lovers – I had heard about the books a couple of years ago but it was always one of those books i will eventually get around to reading. So when the movie came out the other week I went and enjoyed it so much I brought the trilogy of books.
The Hunger Games is set in the future after Panem is divided into Districts. Each year 2 representatives are chosen to represent the district – The reaping using a lottery one female and one male are chosen to represent the District in the Annual Hunger Games where only one tribute will survive. The Hunger Games are part entertainment and intimidation of each tribute with their abilities and training and the different lifestyles of the District. The Hunger Games is is in its 74th year and is televised throughout the Districts
Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen takes over as tribute from her younger sister Primrose Everdeen after is she selected in her first ever reaping. Joining Katniss in the Arena is Peeta Mallark, the bakers son.
Katniss and Peeta are taken to a training centre where they meet the other districts contenders and meet their mentor in the 74th Annual Hunger Games – Haymitch who won the 50th Annual Hungers Games. Haymitch teaches the tributes to learn and watch the other tributes talents and contain their own talents for the Arena
While we all probably know what happens in the Arena – I will not ruin the book, but I will tell you that this is the first book I probably have read in a long time where the movie and the book are pretty much identical. The books goes into further details but the movie has picked up majority of the aspects from the book which makes it a remarkable read
I could not put this book down, every chance that I had a spare moment I had the book in my hands reading away. I would love to share more but I do not want to give too much of the book away.
This book is amazing, I recommend it for all ages and believe it will become a classic just like the Harry Potter Books
Have you read this book? What did you think of it?
I am currently reading Catching Fire which is the second installment of the Trilogy
I would love to hear what you have to say about the book or the movie
